Ten years ago, my good friend Seon Thompson and I stood at a doubles cart in Curepe, Trinidad, having something to eat. The conversation was vibrant, as we discussed the possibility of teaching photography to teens. We joked about possible names for the course, and somewhere between the two of us, the name Young Snaps appeared.

Seon, being a design lover, came up with a logo, and we were on our way. That is, we were on our way to a ten year hiatus, in which the course never ran.

This year (in 2021), the world is being ravished by the pandemic, and everyone was caught indoors. It separated everyone from most of our hobbies. Meanwhile photography, art, design and videography continue to live in our hearts and minds.

That was the true spark that caused us to return to the concept of Young Snaps. We now have powerful tools for online learning that bring amazing potential to the average teacher. Now everyone has some sort of device with a camera. Back then, that was a major concern. Lastly, we both have much more experience with teaching, doing photography, and combining craft (art) skills with photography.

We realised that we had an idea then, but now, we have experience, facilities, and an excellent product!

We’re Ready to Go!

Our first offering is a photography camp, and we have some exciting things in store! You’ll be learning the basics about photography and some cool tips to boost your cell phone photo game.

At the end of the course, we will host an exhibition, in a fully immersible 360° experience. You can view the exhibition on a mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or even in your VR goggles!

We can’t wait to get you started. See you next week!
